The History of Dentures

The start of making dentures was started around 700 B.C. in the northern part of Italy. They made the
dentures out of either animal or human teeth. Even though the denture were easy to make, there were also destroy quickly. The denture were popular
until the 19th century.

In Japan, was where the first complete of useful dentures appeared in. There were made out of wood and had almost the same shape as the modern
dentures. The wooden dentures, were used up until the Meizi period. The Meizi period lasted between October 23, 1868 to July 30, 1912.

Around 1770 the first porcelain dentures were made by Alexis Duchateau. George Washington has perhaps the first famous person to wear dentures. 1764
was the latest George Washington was fitted for his dentures. George Washington's teeth is part of the Mounth Vernon, new display. The dentures were
made out of hippopotamus ivory and not wood like the rumors are stating. Then Nichlos Dubois De chemant was granted the first British patent in 1791.

Claudis Ash was the first person to manufacture 18-carat gold plate of a porcelain denture
in London around 1820.

From the 1850's till now, the dentures were made out of Vulcanite. Vulcanite is a form of rubber that hardness.

Between 1968 to 1998, the rate of people between 65-74 years old had their own natural teeth, went down. In 1968 the rate was 79% and then in 1998 the
was 36%. So the rate dropped 43%.
