Hair Transplant Options

When it comes to losing your hair there are a few options that are available when you start to think about something more permanent than hair sprays or
creams.

The first option is hair grafting otherwise known as hair transplants. Hair transplants are the most
common procedure used when it comes to helping someone get their hair back. It’s very permanent and many people through-out the world have already had
the procedure and have gone back in for their second, third and fourth sessions. The way this option works is by first either using a local anesthetic
or even full sedation to numb the scalp. Once the head is numbed up then hair is taken from the areas of the scalp that are still producing them and
inserted into the balding spot no longer able to grow hair. There are different forms that are used in this procedure and each one used depends on the
reason a person went bald to begin with such as either heredity or an illness. These forms are called slit grafts, mini grafts, mirco grafts and strip
grafts. Each form uses its own number of hairs per balding area. A strip graft for example uses anywhere from 30-40 hairs. This procedure takes up to
four months to fully heal.

Scalp Reduction is the second option and it’s not nearly as famous as hair transplants but it is permanent as well. First of all, when you go in for
your scalp reduction surgery you will be injected in the scalp with a local anesthetic. After your scalp is numb, pieces of it that are no longer able
to produce hair will be cut from your head. The rest of the scalp will then be taken and stretched across the remaining area in order for the full head
to grow hair once more. The scalp is then sutured together.

The differences between the procedures is that scalp reduction only takes one session of surgery while hair transplants can take quite a few. On the other hand, hair transplants are less likely to give the
headaches and pulling sensation that the scalp reduction procedure leaves a patient with.
